Both Ends Burning Inaugural "Empty Stroller" March- RESCHEDULED
Due to the weather that is about to converge on the East Coast, they are going to postpone the march and the leadership lunch. Considering all of the factors, most importantly travel safety, postponing the march is the most prudent course of action. An update will follow soon as to when the march will be rescheduled.
Both Ends Burning (www.bothendsburning.org) is organizing the first "Empty Stroller" march in Washington, D.C., on August 26. This is the beginning of an organized social movement to change international adoption to allow more orphan children access to permanent loving families. This march focuses on part of the problem, the bureaucratic obstacles far too many children and families face on the path of international adoption.
All adoption advocates, families who have been denied the opportunity to adopt, and parents waiting for children to come home are called to join as they march with empty strollers wrapped in red tape. Visit their website for more information and to register.

Saturday Movie Event: "Change of Plans"
A movie for the whole family to enjoy - what happens when you become an "instant family"?
The latest in FOX's "Family Move Night" series, Change of Plans stars American Idol's Brooke White as a musician, married to a fighter-pilot husband, whose carefree life is completely turned around with a single phone call from Child & Family Services. With the news that her best friend from college has suddenly passed away and has left her as the legal guardian of all four of her kids - three of whom are adopted from third-world countries - the two new parents must quickly learn to parent this "instant family" and help the kids deal with the culture clash of life in America. The story is both humorous and heartwarming, revealing how fulfilling life can be when you look beyond your own plans and invest in the lives of others.

GW Chinese New Year Event in Florida!
Join our Florida Regional Officer, Susan Fremer, for a Chinese New Year lunch and silent auction on February 20, 2011!
To continue the tradition, we hope to have formal entertainment, slide presentation, and entertainment! Mark your calendars, make reservations, and invite your family and friends.
All proceeds from this year's silent auction will be donated to Foundation Fighting Blindness to benefit one of our own Great Wall families, Marc and Lori Weinstock, whose 5-year old daughter Katie is now in danger of losing her sight. Marc and Lori have given tirelessly to this event for several years, and it's time to say a very small thank you to them for all they give.
All over this country, people of all ages meet the challenges of life with blinding diseases every day. In fact, over 10 million to be exact.
One of those 10 million American is our 5 year old daughter Katie Starr, who was recently diagnosed with Cone-Rod Dystrophy a hereditary retinal disorder that will rob her of her sight and leave her in darkness unless a treatment or cure is found. This has been a devastating revelation to our family; one that shook us to the core. The shock has now worn off and has been replaced by a determined resolve to fund the research that will allow her and others like her to retain their precious eyesight.
- Lori Weinstock
Families must RSVP and pay for this event in advance, as space is limited. Please contact Susan Fremer if you plan to attend! Volunteers are also greatly appreciated and necessary to ensure a successful event!
Let's rally together as an adoptive community to celebrate our families and to support one in particular as they face a new challenge!

Synopsis
What is it like to be torn from your Chinese foster family, put on a plane with strangers and wake up in a new country, family and culture? Stephanie Wang-Breal’s Wo Ai Ni (I Love You) Mommy is the story of Fang Sui Yong, an 8-year-old orphan, and the Sadowskys, the Long Island Jewish family that travels to China to adopt her. Sui Yong is one of 70,000 Chinese children now being raised in the United States. Through her eyes, we witness her struggle with a new identity as she transforms from a timid child into someone that no one — neither her new family nor she — could have imagined. A co-production of American Documentary/POV and the Diverse Voices Project, presented in association with the Center for Asian American Media, with funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
