International Adoption FAQ's

Q: What is the relationship between CAN and Great Wall?
A: As a division of Great Wall China Adoption, a trusted international adoption agency with the highest service standards, CAN is built on the solid foundation of a fully Hague accredited, 501(c)(3) non-profit, licensed child-placing organization. Families can trust that our agency has 14 years of experience in international adoption and has placed more than 8,000 children internationally. In addition to our well-established China Adoption program, we now offer Nepal Adoption, Mexico Adoption, Rwanda Adoption, Ethiopia Adoption, Philippines Adoption and Haiti Adoption programs.

Q: As a current Great Wall family, can we start a concurrent adoption with your new country program while waiting for a referral from China?
A: Yes, CAN offers a concurrent adoption program for families in the process of adopting from China. You need to submit an application for the new country. All international adoption fees will apply for the new country, and you can contact your home study agency to update your home study.  Remember that CAN is committed to keeping international adoption costs low.

Q: I am currently a Great Wall client in the referral stage. How will a concurrent adoption through CAN impact my dossier in China?
A: There must be a year between the finalization of your adoption through CAN and your adoption through Great Wall in China. If necessary, there are options to meet this timeframe depending on the status of your dossier in China. If you complete your China adoption first, there is no required timeframe between adoptions. Your adoption through CAN’s Nepal Adoption, Mexico Adoption, Haiti Adoption, Rwanda Adoption, Ethiopia Adoption and Philippines Adoption programs can be completed at anytime after your China adoption.  Like China, the Philippines requires one year to pass between all births/adoptions.

Q: I am a previous Great Wall client who has completed China adoption, are there any savings available when I apply with CAN?
A: Yes.
Families that have previously completed a China adoption through Great Wall will receive a savings on their CAN agency fee. Please note that this offer is for a limited time only. Please contact your adoption consultant at CAN for the most current offer.

Q: Can I adopt an infant? What about an older child or a child with special needs?
A: Infants are available for adoption in Nepal, Ethiopia and Rwanda, however, the timeline to adopt an infant may be longer. Older children are also available for adoption in each county. As there is typically higher interest in adopting infants, the timeframe can be shorter in countries like Ethiopia for families that choose to adopt an older child or a child with special needs.

Q: I am interested in adopting more than one child. Which country would allow me to adopt more than one child at a time?
A: Philippines Adoption, Mexico Adoption, Haiti Adoption, Ethiopia Adoption and Rwanda Adoption programs all allow for sibling groups to be adopted. The Ethiopia Adoption, Rwanda Adoption and Haiti Adoption programs also allow for the adoption of non-sibling groups. We encourage you to contact us for up to date information on children available for international adoption.

Q: If I have questions about my eligibility, can I get more information?
A: We are happy to discuss international adoption eligibility requirements on a case by case basis. We also recommend that each family submit our agency application so that we can do a thorough screening of your eligibility for international adoption.

Q: Is financial aid available for my adoption?
A: Yes, our website offers resources for financial assistance for adoptive parents to aid in the overall international adoption costs. Please click here for more information on adoption costs and financial aid.

Q: Will CAN be opening programs in other countries.
A: Yes, our international adoption agency is working to provide adoption and humanitarian aid to countries in need around the globe. As we open programs in other countries, we will make this information available to our families.
