Nepal Adoption Process
1. Application and Approval
To adopt a child from Nepal, please complete our agency application. The application period will remain open until our 10 slots have been filled. We will promptly review your eligibility to adopt from Nepal once we receive your application. If approved, we will provide you with our agency contract that outlines our fees, services and important information regarding the adoption process. Upon receipt of your signed contract, CAN will start to provide you placement services for a child from Nepal.
*Please note that availability for our Nepal Adoption program is limited. Contact us to ensure availability before submitting an application.
2. The Paper Chase
Once your agency contract is in place, it is time to start assembling your dossier. This will include a home study, which will assess your readiness for international adoption and help prepare you for adoptive parenthood, filing with USCIS for international adoption approval, and gathering your dossier documents. All dossier documents must go through the appropriate notification, certification and authentication processes before being sent to Nepal. We offer a complete dossier preparation service to ease your adoption process and give you peace of mind. Please contact us for more information.
3. Identifying a Child
Once your dossier is approved by the Nepalese government, a child is identified based on your preferences for gender, age and health status. You will receive a description of the child, including the child’s history, medical test results and photos. You will have two weeks to review your child’s information before you must either accept or decline the referral.
4. Completing the Adoption
Once you have accepted your referral, families typically travel to Nepal to complete the adoption within three to six months.
5. Picking up Your Child
Families typically stay in Nepal about two to three weeks. CAN will assist you with your travel preparations and arrange all accommodations. We provide an experienced guide to be with you every step of the way.
6. Post Adoption Requirements
Post adoption reports must be submitted six months and 12 months after your international adoption from Nepal is complete. Parents will be required to submit annual written reports directly to the Nepal government until the child reaches age 18.
