Tuberculosis protocols issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in May and June of 2009 made it difficult for families adopting from Ethiopia. The CDC announced that immigrants from Ethiopia over the age of 2 must complete a series of tests that delayed adoptions a minimum of seven days. Depending on the results of those tests, the issuance of visas could have been delayed up to 12 months or more!
Thanks to the advocacy efforts of the Joint Council on International Children's Services, the CDC has updated the TB Protocols to apply to children 10 years or younger.
